In a bid to unlock the creative potential of Nigerian youth and with the rise of digital technology and social media, there are now more opportunities than ever for young creatives to showcase their talents and connect with audiences around the world.
Choosing a career in creativity as a youth can have a significant impact on Nigeria’s economy by reducing youth restiveness and promoting social stability with innovation and entrepreneurship which major contribute to economic growth and diversification, a good reference is the entertainment industry alone contributing over N400 billion from the year 2020 to Nigeria’s GDP, Creative exports like music, film, and visual arts can generate foreign exchange earnings for younger Nigerians. This has drastically reduced unemployment rates, and poverty, making more employers of labor.
However, some challenges need to be addressed, including infrastructure development, funding, and a favorable policy framework is necessary to support the growth of creative industries, including copyright protection, tax incentives, and investment in arts education.
Ileriayo Solomon Okunrotifa, Founder of Betaminds Africa, along with facilitators Oyewole O. Asifat, Ryzer Uffort, Adefolaju Michael, and Ayanleye Ayodeji, emphasized the creative industry’s potential for job creation, economic growth, and poverty reduction. However, they noted that many young Nigerians face challenges due to inadequate skills, knowledge, and support in this field.
As a result of a need for training and capacity-building programs to develop the skills of creative professionals in our great country Nigeria youth.
Betaminds Africa is launching an initiative set to kickstart in the second quarter of the year, and the objective is to provide young aspiring creatives with a comprehensive understanding
of various creative career paths, empowering them to make informed decisions about their future in the creative industry. Offer follow-up workshops or mentorship programs to continue supporting participants’ creative journeys establish an online community or social media group to connect participants and provide ongoing resources and guidance.
We just have to keep introducing initiatives that will drive more youth involvement in establishing and making a living with God-given talents and creativity
